My reading + one-line summaries and views
I like history, politics, finance, economics and a few other things. I started to document my readings over the summer as a way of pushing myself to read more books and not just blogs / newsletters.
2024
August - Prisons of Geography (Tim Marshall): a good 30,000ft view of geopolitics, economics and the world we know today due to geography and borders
September - Antifragile (Nassim Taleb): survival and growth of systems need stress and volatility albeit the reading was a bit repetitive
October - The Credit Investor's Handbook (Michael Gatto): took an interest in understanding debt better, particularly high-yield, and investing in it. Didn't read the whole book but half of the chapters
November - The Coming Wave (Mustafa Sulyeman): started a year ago, then put it down after the first few reads as I found it a bit too alarmist, which after reading it 100% is still true + thin on the technology itself
December - 💀
2025
January - Moederland: Nine Daughters of South Africa (Cato Pedder): the history of South Africa through the stories of women.
February - King of Capital: King of Capital: The Remarkable Rise, Fall, and Rise Again of Steve Schwarzman and Blackstone: As the title says.
March - Happiness Falls: family and the pursuit of happiness/
April - 💀
May - Shoe Dog (Phil Knight): I'm late to this one but started during my trip to Japan and led to me buying my first pair of Onitsuka Tiger's.
June - Born a Crime (Trevor Noah): The childhood of Trevor Noah. Led to a lot of reflection on my own childhood.
July- How Big Things Get Done (Dan Gardner, Bent Flyvbjerg): Successfully planning and executing - currently reading.
